Kevin Kennedy, Hotel Westport, Named Ireland’s Most Imaginative Bartender!
Kevin Kennedy, Bar Supervisor, Hotel Westport, scooped the title of Bombay Sapphire Most Imaginative Bartender at the Irish Final recently held in the renowned Dublin restaurant Pichet.
The Bombay Sapphire Worlds Most Imaginative Bartender programme is a global bartending competition celebrating the power of imagination in cocktail making. Imagination has long been at the heart of the Bombay Sapphire story - from its artisan distillation process, the careful selection of the 10 exotic botanicals through to the inspired blue bottle that is recognised the world over.
The competition, credited to be one of the most respected and challenging in the Industry, required bartenders to enter their Gin & Tonic Re-imagined online. Kevin's savoury style G&T was chosen with 9 other bartenders from all over Ireland by Alan Kavanagh, Irish Brand Ambassador for Bombay Sapphire.
In the final, Kevin had to recreate his entry along with his Ultimate Bombay Sapphire serve. The judges challenged the finalists to go out into Dublin City to find inspiration from one of the countries that Bombay Sapphire source the 10 exotic botanicals used to flavour their gin. Kevin chose Tuscany and bought an Italian honey and Armaro - an Italian aperitif, which he combined to create the flavour of Benedictine liqueur, which he was using in his original cocktail. Kevin, wowed the judges with his technique, presentation and understanding of flavours to deliver a beautiful and well-balanced cocktail.
Kevin has developed a reputation of being one of the most talented and creative bartenders in the country. Having won the Havana Club Cocktail Grand Prix and Represented Ireland in the Global Final in Cuba and only two week ago finishing Joint Second Runner-Up in the National Cocktail Competition ran by The Bartenders Association of Ireland. Kevin will be travelling to London to represent Ireland again this time in the UK and Irish Final.
Kevin’s latest award winning cocktails will soon be available as part of the new Cocktail Menu soon to be launched in the Maple Bar at Hotel Westport.
