Hotel Westport - Optimistic About The Future.
Careful optimism for the future is the mantra of the day at Hotel Westport according to the General Manager Declan Heneghan. There are many good reasons to be optimistic about whats going on from a tourism perspective in the region, Co. Mayo and more particularly Westport and of course Hotel Westport he says.
The great success of the Gathering and the local 42km Great Western Greenway have given a new confidence to the industry in the region. So much so, that the “Wild Atlantic Away” which is to be one the Worlds longest, most enchanting and culturally rich coastal touring routes, stretching from Malin to Mizen (with Westport firmly mapped en-route), has been given specific government strategic importance to aid growth and success in the hospitality industry. These are tangible examples of real catalysts for growth in one of our main indigenous industries the hospitality sector.
On a more micro level, there is anecdotal evidence at least in the Hotel sector of a renewed confidence with many operators are re-investing and refurbishing properties in anticipation of a re-invigorated sector.
Hotel Westport is no exception and is just about to complete the refurbishment of another corridor of Hotel rooms to contemporary standards and usability for the discerning customer. This, coupled with a refurbishment programme that has been ongoing over the past number of years to includ public areas, bars, restaurant and of course the Cara Suite (the main banqueting Suite), with its two bars – a new state of the art bar in the banqueting suite & another adjacent to it, is proof that Hotel Westport is futuristic and confident about its place in the sector.
This re-investment has been well received by our customers and has resulted in new business right across the enterprise especially the wedding business, which has seen excellent growth for this year and beyond. Another interesting point to note is that when our staff decide to get married more often than not they chose Hotel Westport their own place of work to have one of the biggest and most important days of their lives, a great vote of confidence in our own product.
Declan is keen to point out however, that it is the people who work at the Hotel that make the real difference. The hotel has been the recipient of many national awards in recent years ranging from food awards, cocktail making, family friendly hotel of the year, gold award for accommodation and facilities management and the more recent National award from the Automobile Association (The AA) the Courtesy & Care Award for 2013/2014 ,which is a true recognition of what we are about.
Our staff are vested in the success of the Hotel and are the most commented aspect of what we are and what we do.
We are award winning right across our full range of services not just one niche area, proof positive of an engaged community of workers here.
This commitment to quality is proving to be a successful business strategy yielding new business throughout all market segments especially new wedding business. It is interesting that Hotel Westport attracts weddings from all over the county particularly from traditional areas like Westport and outlying areas , Newport, Achill, North Mayo, South Sligo, East Roscommon, North Galway and beyond, including many from outside the country. Particularly since celebrities like Pierse Brosnan and his beau, and also Shane Filan to name but a few, got maried in the area, it has put Westport and Hotel Westport more on the map for intending couples. They will be assured a warm welcome and great hospitality when they choose Hotel Westport for their big day
